two is better than one

i came across a website a few months back, and i've only recently started really looking at it on a daily basis. they have how to create celebrity style cheaper, what's in style now, and how you can create your own look. it also deals with beauty, health, skin care... those type things.
i highly recommend checking it out.

you're going to go far

hello all!
and after who knows how long of being inactive, i think i'm back. and for good this time. school is finally over (hopefully i passed everything!) and with that being done, much stress is gone as well.
now, i could update you on everything that has happened in my life since i last posted... or i could just as easily post a beautiful picture in an attempt to make you forgive me. i'm voting for option number two.

i'll be brutally honest... i really did miss blogging.
i'm back.
xxo.

30.10.09

you were my only

i feel so lost when i feel uninspired. i feel like the sky is falling down, and there's nothing i can do about it. i almost feel like the world is on the verge of ending.
i so want to be inspired. i've spent almost a month spending every night browsing through beautiful photography, and nothing is working.
i am so uninspired. so completely and utterly uninspired.
i started thinking, maybe if i started blogging again, i would somehow be inspired once again. and i'm praying it's working.
so, my darlings, i am back. my posts may be a bit blunt at first, but at least they'll be there.
i'm off in search of inspiration.

you don't even have to ask twice

so i will start off by apologizing. it has been a few days (too long!) that i haven't posted, and the word of the day failed. but, not without good reason.
my father was rushed to the hospital a few days ago, because he suddenly blacked out and fell over. everything is fine now, he underwent surgery this morning, and he's doing well. i'm going to go see him later, but the stress of what's happened these past few days has thoroughly exhausted me, so i'm going to have a nap first.
so i just thought i should let you know what has been happening, so there you go!
i'll be back to posting tons soon, don't you worry!

come right back to me

megan took a quiz about what interior design style she is, and i decided to take it as well! she was modern elegance, and i ended up being vintage modern.

Vintage Modern

Flea Market anyone? You know you are drawn to modern furniture and interiors, and yet you really don't like a space that feels cold and sterile. And who could blame you? And that's why Vintage Modern is so appealing to you. Though the backdrop of the room, the walls and windows, are many times white or monochromatic, the furniture and accessories have the color, shape and texture to bring the warmth into the space. The great thing about Vintage Modern is ease of mixing different styles in the one space. You can have a new modular sofa mixed with a great pair of chairs that your grandmother purchased in the late 1950's and the new and old work appear as though they were destined for each other. What's great is that even if you don't have time for swap meets and garage sales, so many of the pieces from the mid-century were so great that they have been remade and mimicked year after year.

give me a swirl

yesterday i was walking around the house, when suddenly i found myself singing avril lavigne.
i had a phase where i loved her, and i even loved her style. now i look back, and think that maybe, just maybe, she was a little bit crazy.
i went searching, and i found some pictures where she looks fantastic. i'll only post my two favorite, since you may all be getting sick and tired with the ridiculous number of pictures i post sometimes.

i especially love that last one.

good bye neverland

i`m not feeling very well today, and a friend of mine suggested lemon tea. my family tends to drink a lot of tea, so i went looking through all the types of tea we had... luckily, we have lemon tea.
now, lemon tea is actually surprisingly dark. i was expecting it to be the most pale of yellow... but no. it`s actually a dark red/brown.
they recommended adding honey, if desired. i did so desire, except i am allergic to honey. i made do with a spoonful of sugar.
while i was waiting for my tea to be ready, i observed the tea bag. tea bags tend to have a little label that say the brand of the tea, and it tends to say it on both sides... but on this particular label, there was the brand name on one side, and a quote on the other.

" a pupil from whom nothing is ever demanded which he cannot do,
never does all he can. "
- john stuart mill

ah, i do love tea. so relaxing, and that quote was so... inspiring, somehow.

runaway, yeah

oh my dear me, i do get sick of things easily. i changed my header again. just because.
i found it didn't really scream "think rich, look poor", and that's what i really wanted. do you think this one is better? let me know! it took my so long to edit the picture... absolutely ridiculous.

i hope everyone is having a fantastic monday.
kisses!

hello, hello

my mom just made roasted butternut squash and pear soup. and let me tell you, it was divine. i'll write you up the recipe, i'd recommend trying it! en plus, it's a healthy meal choice!
recipe from the daily green.

servings
6 - 8

ingredients
1 large butternut squash (about 3 pounds), peeled, seeded and cut into 1-inch pieces
2 carrots, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
coarse sea salt or kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 leeks, white and light green parts only, cleaned and sliced.
2 bosc pears, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
1/2 cup white wine
1/4 cup brandy
7 cups chicken or vegetable broth (low sodium if canned) or water
1 large sprig fresh thyme plus additional leaves for garnish
1-inch piece ginger root, peeled and grated
1/4 cup crème fraiche or sour cream, for garnish (optional)
1 tablespoon chopped crystallized ginger, for garnish

preparation
1. preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. place the squash and carrots in a roasting pan large enough to hold them in one layer (or use 2), and toss with the oil and salt and pepper. roast for 10 minutes, then add the leeks and pears. toss to combine and continue to roast for another 30 minutes, until the vegetables are tender and browned.
2. remove the pan from the oven and immediately add the wine and brandy, using a wooden spoon to scrape the vegetables and their caramelized juices from the sides and bottom of the pan. transfer the vegetables and liquid to a large soup pot. pour in the broth or water, adding additional water if necessary to cover the vegetables by 1 inch. add the thyme sprig and grated ginger root and bring the liquid to a boil. reduce the heat and simmer, partially covered, for 1 hour.
3. remove the thyme sprig and puree the soup either with a hand held blender, or in batches in a blender or food processor. transfer the soup to a medium mesh sieve set over another pot. use a rubber spatula to press the solides through the sieve. if the soup seems too thick, thin it with a little water. season with salt and pepper.

i hope everyone is having a lovely sunday.

xxo.

p.s. though this is the original recipe, my mom alters it quite a bit. i'm allergic to pears, so she doesn't add any. and she forgot to buy leeks, so she added onion instead... and she doesn't even bother with the wine or brandy.

like i do

a conversation with my mom, as i'm studying sociology.

"so, MOM, who is the father of sociology?"
"why... i don't know..."
"august comte!"
"who's august comte?"
"... the father of sociology..."
"we could go round in circles on this one..."

i love my mom.

don't let me

after spending the day sightseeing, we had a bonfire at my cousins house. they live on the same street as us, so we just walked over and had a party! we ate sausages with potato salad, then we made smores. the guitars came out, and we all started singing along.
of course, i wasn't able to take any pictures since i don't have a working camera... but here are some lovely pictures of bonfires.

i have always had a secret love for ballet. i did it when i was younger, and absolutely hated it at the time. these days, i wish i had stuck to it.
it is so graceful, so lovely.

i'm thinking of starting up again, but that would require talking to my parents and convincing them that i'm serious about it.
wish me luck!
